Neighbourhood Plan: Drop-In Session Wed 15 Sept 6-8pm Gayton Church

Gayton and Gayton Thorpe Neighbourhood Plan

We are sending the following information to a number of mail lists and social media  with a connection to Gayton.  You may have signed up to more than one of these, so we apologise if you receive our information several times.

The Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, on behalf of Gayton Parish Council, is seeking community support and feedback on the Draft Neighbourhood Plan as part of the formal Regulation 14 Consultation stage, where everyone can have their say.  There are surveys, documents and maps to help you do this.

Find out how to have your say here!

Or go straight to the on-line survey here

  ——–o——–

We are running a Drop-In session at

St Nicholas Church in Gayton on:

Wednesday 15th September from 6pm until 8pm

Please come and see us.  We are there to answer your questions and help you respond to the consultation.  We will have paper copies of the Neighbourhood Plan and the Character Assessment available, plus larger versions of the important maps.

Reminder: Consultation period ends 3 October 2021

Invitation…

Would you like to join Gayton Parish Council?

There is one vacancy on Gayton Parish Council and we are inviting residents of Gayton Parish to put themselves forward as candidates to fill this vacancy.
Are you interested?  It’s easy – read on for how it works.

What does the Parish Council do?

The Parish Council (PC) is responsible for many village assets such as playgrounds, litter, streetlights, speed warnings, defibrillators, bus shelter, notice boards, public green areas, and footpaths.

Councillors set the budget for Gayton Parish every year and direct the spending of the money (which is collected as part of Council Tax), wisely and responsibly.

The PC responds to all planning applications in the parish and co-ordinates responses to other agencies and organisations where it is not directly responsible.

Come and join us!

Can you offer your skills and experience to represent your community and contribute to the running of the Parish?

Are you already involved in your local community?

Perhaps you’ve got involved recently during the lockdowns due to COVID?

If you would like to put yourself forward to join the PC…
…here’s what you need to know and do:

  • Councillors attend one meeting per month, currently by video (Zoom), and sometimes get directly involved with various essential activities if they have the required skills and choose to do so.  A short training course is available for new councillors, so anyone can get up to speed quickly.
  • Register your interest by contacting the PC Chairman John Currey by email chair@gaytonpc.org.uk or Councillor Susanne Jarratt by email Susanne@gaytonpc.org.uk, or by phone for a chat about what it involves (07958 490 336)
  • ANYONE over 18 and who lives, works or owns property or a business in the Parish can apply.
  • The Parish Council is non-party-political and we would like the PC to reflect the community in order to best represent it.  We welcome applications from all and we would like to improve the representation of the following groups on the PC: younger people, women, people who run businesses in the villages, recent arrivals to the parish and people who are renting rather than own their own homes.
  • At the next council meeting (Wednesday 7th April at 7.30 by video) you will be invited to spend up to 3 minutes explaining what you would bring to the PC and how you would represent the community as a councillor (contact John if you don’t have access to video conferencing).
  • The council will vote on the applicants – see https://gaytonpc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/co-option-policy.pdf for the detailed co-option procedure.

Community Action Norfolk

Dear All

You may remember that CAN (Community Action Norfolk), the charity I work for, is providing support to grassroots community groups (sometimes called mutual aid groups) that developed in West Norfolk during Covid-19 as part of a project we are doing for the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk.

We are running a couple of free online sessions for these groups of volunteers who have been helping their neighbours for the last 9 months or so. The idea is that group volunteers and organisers can ‘meet’ us (me and my colleague Tracey) and people in other community groups like theirs in an online video session and chat through any issues or queries they have and discuss what works well when you are part of a group helping others in your community.

The flyer attached provides details of the two sessions which we are running in February – one in an evening and one in a morning. We’d appreciate it if you would share this email within your local networks or on any parish notice board in case there are volunteers still helping who would like to attend – community group organisers, volunteers and local councillors are welcome and can come to either session.

Regards
