Invitation…

Would you like to join Gayton Parish Council?

There is one vacancy on Gayton Parish Council and we are inviting residents of Gayton Parish to put themselves forward as candidates to fill this vacancy.
Are you interested?  It’s easy – read on for how it works.

What does the Parish Council do?

The Parish Council (PC) is responsible for many village assets such as playgrounds, litter, streetlights, speed warnings, defibrillators, bus shelter, notice boards, public green areas, and footpaths.

Councillors set the budget for Gayton Parish every year and direct the spending of the money (which is collected as part of Council Tax), wisely and responsibly.

The PC responds to all planning applications in the parish and co-ordinates responses to other agencies and organisations where it is not directly responsible.

Come and join us!

Can you offer your skills and experience to represent your community and contribute to the running of the Parish?

Are you already involved in your local community?

Perhaps you’ve got involved recently during the lockdowns due to COVID?

If you would like to put yourself forward to join the PC…
…here’s what you need to know and do:

  • Councillors attend one meeting per month, currently by video (Zoom), and sometimes get directly involved with various essential activities if they have the required skills and choose to do so.  A short training course is available for new councillors, so anyone can get up to speed quickly.
  • Register your interest by contacting the PC Chairman John Currey by email chair@gaytonpc.org.uk or Councillor Susanne Jarratt by email Susanne@gaytonpc.org.uk, or by phone for a chat about what it involves (07958 490 336)
  • ANYONE over 18 and who lives, works or owns property or a business in the Parish can apply.
  • The Parish Council is non-party-political and we would like the PC to reflect the community in order to best represent it.  We welcome applications from all and we would like to improve the representation of the following groups on the PC: younger people, women, people who run businesses in the villages, recent arrivals to the parish and people who are renting rather than own their own homes.
  • At the next council meeting (Wednesday 7th April at 7.30 by video) you will be invited to spend up to 3 minutes explaining what you would bring to the PC and how you would represent the community as a councillor (contact John if you don’t have access to video conferencing).
  • The council will vote on the applicants – see https://gaytonpc.files.wordpress.com/2020/04/co-option-policy.pdf for the detailed co-option procedure.
