Gayton Crossroads

Annual Parish MeetingWednesday 1st May 2024, from 6.30pm, Jubilee Hall (6.30pm refreshments will be served with meeting starting at 7pm).

You are warmly invited to the Annual Parish Meeting. An Annual Parish Meeting is not a Parish Council meeting. An Annual Parish Meeting is a meeting of the people of the parish (whereas a Parish Council meeting, is a meeting of the Parish Council).

At the Annual Parish Meeting the Parish Council reports to residents on its activities over the last year and there are usually reports from County and District Councillors and perhaps from any voluntary or local community group. It is also an opportunity for parishioners to question people and organisations on any issues relating to the village. This year we have a presentation from an officer from Kings Lynn Borough Council Council entitled ‘Beat your Bills’. Are you a local organisation in Gayton Parish that would like to report on its activities this year? If so contact the Parish Clerk at clerk@gaytonpc.org.uk

As the Annual Parish Meeting is not a parish council meeting it is not conducted in the same way or governed by the same rules as a parish council meeting. Members of the public are permitted to make statements on relevant matters during the meeting. Any resolutions spoken about or passed, do not bind the Parish Council.

  • Putting forward ideas for better services
  • Responding to the needs and views of parishioners
  • Seeking the best outcome to local issues
  • Getting involved in decision making
  • Helping to make Gayton a better place to live!

We normally meet on the first Thursday of the month. Meetings commence at 7pm at the Jubilee Hall lasting around 2 hours. Councillors are expected to attend meetings on a regular basis.

If you are interested, we would love to hear from you.  Contact the Clerk Susie Mullins at clerk@gaytonpc.org.uk or 07378408078 to find out more.

About Gayton

Gayton is a village located just over seven miles east of Kings Lynn, and lies on the B1145 road. The estimated population according to the 2011 Census, was that there were 1,432 residents living in 657 households. The parish has a total area of 8.82 square miles (22.8 km2).

Unlike many Norfolk villages, Gayton is a working village with many facilities and amenities. These include a church, a primary school, a pub, a butcher/delicatesse, a petrol station/car repair garage, a convenience store and post office, a fish and chip shop, and a hair salon. Social facilities include a Women’s Institute, Girl Guides and a a thriving social club. There is a children’s playground which had its equipment extensively upgraded in 2012, and again in 2015 with the addition of a new skateboard park. New playground equipment was provided in Gayton Thorpe in 2023.

The Gayton and Gayton Thorpe Neighbourhood Plan 2019-2036 was passed at referendum on 9 November 2023. At the referendum 86.6% of votes cast supported adoption of the Neighbourhood Development Plan, meaning that the Borough Council is obliged to ‘make’ (adopt, or bring into legal force) the Plan. The plan enables the parish council and community to have a greater say in how the character of the area can be protected over the coming years and what form new development should take, to enhance the character of the built environment. Details on the Neighbourhood Plan can be accessed from this website.

More information regarding Gayton an Gayton Thorpe can be found in the 2006 Parish plan, which can be downloaded as an Acrobat PDF file. Please note that this plan was produced a number of years ago and does not reflect the current position regarding planning for the villages. However much of the background information about the villages is still interesting and relevant.
